trees and odd phrases

If you happen to be near Lexington Street in Waltham between Main St, Waltham and Totten Pond Road, the trees there are absolutely gorgeous. The leaves have turned (finally - is it especially late this year?) and shade from yellow to orange to red. They're almost as pretty as sugar maple leaves. I'm not sure what species of trees these are - they have almost round, smallish leaves.

I have a feeling that the trees will be bare next week after the storms predicted for this weekend, so go see them while you can.

Also, almost by accident I determined that the phrase "he's so dreamy!" is still in use today. I thought it had gone out of use a couple of decades ago. For a somewhat cute example, take a look at Why Mathies are so Dreamy!. Too bad they never got around to writing the sequel: Why Engineers are so Dreamy!

New tech toy! I want!

kviri is evil - he has made me aware (through this thread on his friends page) of the Kyocera 7135, an amazing new smartphone. It uses PalmOS, has a color screen, plays mp3s and even uses 3G.

My cellphone contract is up in less than a month, so I guess I have something to think about. It'll probably be way too expensive for how much I use it, especially since I don't use my Visor as much as I should (but I would use this more! Really! :) ). Well, I have something to think about as long as Sprint isn't the only carrier with this phone - for some reason they have the best phones and the worst service (in my admittedly outdated experience).

ETA: Found a nice review of a pre-release model. It seems that this phone is almost vaporware (sales people swear it will be out by the end of this quarter). People think that Verizon will probably carry it as well as Sprint, which is good, although Cingular's rollover minutes are tempting. More research needed.
