Having shamed myself by realizing how many DVDs I own and haven't managed to watch, I continue on...

Farther off recently finished: Chance Pop Session (7 or 8 / 10)
Recently finished: Fruits Basket (9 or 10 / 10)
More recently finished: Oh My Goddess! (OVA) (6 / 10)

I've been working on shorter series because I want to expand my anime viewing breadth, so that I better know how different series compare to each other. I made an exception for Fruits Basket though (26 episodes).

Fruits Basket is amazing - heartwarming and sad (yes, at the same time) and profound while staying just on the proper side of sappiness, and very funny (in the right places - helps with the sappy control). It also has a nice number of standalone episodes (or standalone quality, once you've seen the series), which helps with rewatchability.

Chance Pop Session is much lighter than Fruits Basket, and probably will be most enjoyed by people who like talent shows (e.g. American Idol, although without the annoying bits). There was an extra-earnest rather annoying speech in one episode, the main mysterious plot was thrown up there in big shining letters (so obvious!) and then left to hang for 4-5 episodes, and a couple of the songs are used a little too much. However, I still thought it was cute (not like Sugar or anything, but endearing), sweet, and mostly well-paced - worth watching if you like that sort of show.

Oh My Goddess was a surprise to me, in that I became a little bored with it - I had seen the first three episodes before and remembered liking them much better the first time. For a 5 episode OVA, it was rather silly how often the "Keiichi-san!" "Belldandy" "Keiichi-san!" sorts of exchanges occurred (and I wasn't so happy with the tone in Belldandy's seiyuu's voice - it was so...submissive...which fits, but started to get on my nerves). I just didn't really care about the relationship by the end, which I guess makes sense considering how short the OVA is. Perhaps the difference is that I've seen Fruits Basket this time, or perhaps I just prefer shoujo romantic comedies to shounen ones. I still really like Skuld and her bug hunting. :)

Next up ideas: Ah! My Goddess (movie), Cowboy Bebop (movie), Read or Die (OVA), Kurogane Communications, Shamanic Princess, Moldiver

Where the heck are the people for this conference call?

Read or Die is fun. I enjoyed it most thoroughly.
